It's been a long time since I've read a book the year it was published. It's been a long time since I've so thoroughly loved ever second I've spent with a book.

Grady Hendrix loves horror the way I love horror, and when you're writing a horror book that's really important. I have read horror novels from author's that engage in horror in alternate ways and they just don't sit right with me.

But this masterpiece filled me with joy and elation every step of the way.

This had some good and not so good elements. I enjoyed the characters, the premise was unique. There are some scary, exciting things but I felt there were parts that added nothing to the book that should have just been left out. Not my favorite Hendrix.

I've only read one other book by Hendrix (How to Sell a Haunted House), and I can say that I definitely preferred that one over this Final Girl. It was a fast read but not terribly exciting. There were too many red herrings that I lost some interest in it. However, there was one paragraph that really made an impression on me: page 320, paragraph 2, where Lynnette is being chased by the killer and she's running for her life and for all the girls who've run for lives. It's an effective example of excellent writing. This is what I liked most about this story. 3 stars.
