I've read, and loved, all of Stephanie Lauren's books, but I have to say I think that this 4th book in the 'Bastion Club' series has to be one of the best, if not the best, so far! Jack and Clarice are both strong, independent, mature people who have a mature relationship and truly complement one another. Along with an intriguing plot, their relationship makes this book very special.
A Bastion Club Novel....The men of the Bastion Club are powerful, loyal, and not averse to overcoming danger if they must. Now, after years of loyal service to the Crown, they each-one by one-must face that greatest daner of all...love. The last of his line, Jack, Baron Warnefleet, has fled London after nearly being compromised into marrying a dreadful female. Turning his back on the entire notion of marriage, he rides home to the estate he has not seen for years, determined to set in motion an alternative course of action. But then in the lane before his gate, Jack rescues a startingly beautiful lady from a menacing, unmanageable horse. However, while he begins by taking command, the lady continues by taking it back. Ldy Clarice Altwood is no meek and mild miss. She is the anthesis of the woolly-headed young ladies Jack has rejected as not for him. Clarice is delectably attractive, beyond eligible, undeniably capable, and completely unfortgettable. Why on earth is she rusticating in the country?
Jack flees London and heads home to find a Lady that is in danger.Jack must use all that he ha to find a way to help her and she steals his heart.
I loved this book as I did all the Bastion Novels!
Great book!
Part of the Bastion Club series, this book keeps you interested in the plight of its characters.
The fourth book in the Bastion Club series about Jack, Baron Warnefleet, capturing his love, Lady Clarice Altwood while at the same time trying to protect her from being killed. Another luscious romance from Stephanie Laurens.
From back cover: "Jack... has fled London after nearly being compromised into marrying a dreadful female. Turning his back on the entire notion of marriage, he rides home to the estate he has not seen for years, determined to set in motion an alternative course of action." That is until he meets lady Clarice Altwood, a strong not mild mannered miss.

Great Read!
Love the Bastion series
Loved it, great storyline, really fun and sizzling main characters and great details. You will want to read the whole series. A fun good read!
Good book! :)
Wonderfully romantic escapism novel. The Bastion Club is a group of English gentlemen returned from the wars with Napoleon who all must marry. They form the Bastion Club and buy a residence in which to meet and share info on prospective brides and which debutantes and managing future mothers-in-laws to avoid. Of course there are mysteries which lead them to meet women they most likely would never have met in Almack's Assembly Room. The struggle between strong willed men and women ensue with lots of torrid romance thrown in.
i have really enjoyed this book
This is the fourth book in the series. I'm not normally a reader of historical romance but I've been hooked by Laurens clever plots and her sizzling hot love scenes that are more than just hot sex; there are tenderness and romance blended with the passion which makes for a very good read. I'm also reading the Bastion Club series and while the main story line is a bit predictable (dominanting male wins reluctant female) her female characters are strong and smart and very much a match for our handsome and sexy hero. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
Wonderful book by an awesome authori - must read romance!
very good series
The 4th in the Bastion Club series; a good read.
Good book.
Good series, yet it's less exciting as it goes on.
excellent!
Enjoyed it very much!
Usual Laurens type of book. Pretty good. 4 stars.
This is Jack's story. He's Baron Warnefleet, the last of his line, and has fled London after nearly being entrapped by one of the many desperate, marriage-seeking females of London society. In the country, he meets Lady Clarice who is definitely not a biddable, mild, meek miss. Further, she does not want to ever marry. Their story is very passionate. If you like Stephanie Laurens' writing, you'll love this one.
Stephanie Laurens scores again with this addition to the Bastion Club series. Danger abounds and passion soars in this excellent book!
This book did not hold my interest at all, I would not recommend it.....
While Baron Warnefleet is escaping London so he doesn't have to marry someone he doesn't love, he rescues a woman by the side of the road. She becomes an enigma to him.
Best of the Bastion Club Books - Thoroughly enjoyed every page ! ! ! ! !
Historical love novel easy reading
A Bastion Club Novel. Jack Warnefleet flees London for his country home. there he meets Lady Clarice, highly independent and completely unforgettable with absolutely no desire for marriage.
I enjoyed the book.
Jack, Baron Warnefleet has fled Londaon after nearly being ocmpromised into marrying a dreadful female. Turning his back on the entire notion of marriage he rides home to the estate he has not seen for years. But at the gate he rescues Lady Clarice Altwood. He then learns she is being staked by a killer and must protect her at all cost.
I thought so boring. I had to skim several pages at a time just to get through it. Too much details- not enought romantic sparks.
Normally I really like Laurens but I didn't care for this one. The characters, especially Clarice, were not really appealing. She just seemed like a cold snob to me.
Absolutely love all Laurens Boone including this one.

This enigma is compounded by mystery, and it's quickly clear that Clarice is in danger. Jack must use every ounce of his cunning and witt to protect this highly independent and richly passionate woman... who has so quickly stolen his heart.
