This is the second book of a triology. I did not know this when I got the book, and read it without having read the first. The action seems to pick up immediately where book one leaves off (it's easy enough to figure out what happened in that book without reading it), and it ends in an odd place, assuming you will read book three. In between is a classic journey tale with typical evil guys. The girl travels about, looking for safety and meeting various people, while the bad guy tries to kill her via some really nasty birds. Not much plot beyond that, and nothing to make me want to find books 1 & 3. I picked up the book because of the talking horse, but he talks very little. He's supposed to be guiding the girl, but he never gives instruction, and most of the time has no idea what to do. I didn't find him much of a hero, or the girl either.
Do not read this book if you are afraid of birds!
