My children enjoy the American Adventure Series. Fire by Night contained some very good life lesson about honesty, death, and working together as a family to get through some tough times.

Fire by night is a very good book.
This is what it says on the back: A cyclone flattens much of Boston,living the Smythe family`s carpentry shop in ruins. Father must leave for England to build furniture for the king and earn much-needed money. then, Phillip and Leah are awakened at night by fire! There house burns to the ground, destroying almost everything they own.

My kids loved this whole series. It's a great way to learn history in a style kids can relate to.
