This was possibly the most twisted and deranged story I have ever read. Just when I thought, okay, I can handle that, Laymon throws in another, even more disturbing twist! Horrifying, mind numbing, can't put it down read. Sick and demented. Totally good book.

One thing is certain, she won't be prepared for what she'll find when he drives her to a tiny, isolated town baking in the desert sun.

All of the Richard Laymon books I've read have been page turners. Into the Fire is no exception. A woman is saved from a rapist by a mysterious man (who just happens to drive a bus full of mannequins)who brings her to a tiny town that has a...well..biting secret. Meanwhile, three people on a killing spree are on a collision course with this town and the protaganist. This book has gore galore and tons of corpses, so if graphic violence bothers you , give this one a miss. But that is regular Laymon fare. In my opinion, Into the Fire is Laymon at his best. I read this book in two days and I guarantee you won't be able to put it down.

I believe that this book,along with "To Wake the dead" and "The lake", were the last of Laymons books that were unpublished before he died and were put out by his wife.
In true Laymon fashion it is two seperate stories that come together at the climatic ending. The first, Pamela is kidnapped buy a serial killing freak she went to high-school with. She is rescued right off the bat by a man driving a bus full of manequens and brought to the town of Pitts. She becomes resident number seven and finds out a weird town secret.
The second is Norman, he is driving home from college when he is accosted by a james dean wannabe named Duke. Duke convinces Norman to give him a ride. Eventually they find a chubby girl named Boots and the three of them go on a cross country killing spree.
The two stories converge in the climatic ending. Overall, the book was a little long and some parts were kind of boring. Not his best but not his worst. good for someone who has never read Laymons work and wants to see what he is about.

I got to about page 100 and then I skipped and skimmed and got enough to know I didn't want to read the whole thing, when it got to being just sexual depravity and then it got disgusting I just couldn't go any further, this is really gross
A strange one. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Somewhat violent.
This is probably about the 5th or 6th Laymon that I have read. It's pretty typical - filled with a lot of gratuitous sex and violence. This one goes on to a very strange situation in a small desert town called Pits with a population of 6. I don't want to give away too much but this one is not for the squeamish or easily offended.
young girl on the run from a killer. If you are new to this author and love horror you'll love everything he writes. Must read.
