An unusual setting for a lovestory.. Cottonwood Falls Kansas very close to my hometown lead me to open this New York Times best seller. It's a good read for a winter evening.

Wow, is this book interesting. Not only is it engrossing, but there is now way that you could predict its twists and turns. Not only did I enjoy it but I also found it quite inspiring.

A lyrical, moving account of the relationships between mother & child, father & daughter and a new love that brings life and blessings to them all.

A lovely and touchingly written love story. Not usually my genre, but I couldn't put this one down.
A bit different, but a strong story
A concert violinist, she belonged on the stage. He belonged to the land he worked, and to another woman.
A story of love that never dies! Great storytelling and character development. You'll identify with all the personalities and find it hard to put down.....may even bring tears to your eyes.
Debut novel. Tells the story of the undying devotion between a mother & child... the bittersweet relationship between a father & daughter... and the tragic passion between a man & a woman --- a love that transforms the lives of those around them even after its embers have died down.
Firebird is a romance with a love triangle like you've never read before. The story takes place in ranch country in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Ethan Browne, with a Ph.D. in English and a repertoire enabling him to recite great romantic literature on demand, chooses Katie Anne as his future wife. However, he doesn't love her. He just feels that it's part of his dream to have a wife, much like the chores he accomplishes on his cattle ranch. Believing that's all he needs, he sets out to win Katie Anne, and proposes marriage. Katie Anne is in love with Ethan and her love will go to any measure to keep him from being attracted to Annette, who's returned to town for her mother's funeral. Annette is a Kansas-born concert violinist in town from Paris.
This love triangle has its obstacles: Annette's aversion to the land Ethan loves, and Katie Anne's determination to hold onto Ethan though she knows he loves Annette (whose father will cast Ethan out of the ranching life if Ethan doesn't marry his daughter). Who will Ethan choose and what will his future hold?
This novel has been compared to The Horse Whisperer because it surprises readers at every turn, especially at the end.

This book is full of twist and turns. Just when you think you know were it is going it doesn't. A great love story.
Janice is a new author to me. I will be seeing what other books she wrote.

An awesome story! Definately one you can't put down.
A first novel, but this author is marvelously adept as a storyteller. The reader will know each of the main actors, so well are the characters drawn. It's only 254 pages, but each page is filled with perfect prose that allows you, dear reader, to become part of the tale being told.
An easy-read romance book with an interesting twist. If you are looking for a book to get lost in- this is a good one to try!
I just finished Firebird by Janice Graham. Ethan Browne is a Kansas doctor who chooses Katie Anne to be his bride, even though he is in love with Annette who just returned to town for her mother's funeral. Ethan sets out to win Katie Anne because he believes that is what he needs to do.
Ethan is also a rancher and Katie Anne has an aversion to the land he loves. She also is aware that he is in love with Annette, but is determined to hold on to him in spite of that fact.
Janice Graham's style of writing is beautiful, but in my opinion, the plot twist at the end is a little strange. I give this book a B!

FIREBIRD IS A NOVEL FROM THE HEART, WHICH TELLS A STORY OF UNIVERAL TRUTHS-OF THE LOVE BETWEEN MEN AND WOMAN AND MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS, OF PASSION THAT TRANSCENDS TRAGEDY OF PROMISES MADE AND PROMISES KEPT
Ethan Brown is a gentleman rancher and the sole attorney in Cottonwood Falls, but he's a lawyer with a heart: his office sign quotes WordsworthAa reference to his love of English poetry and to an academic career sidelined by his desire to stay on his home ground, where he and longtime girlfriend Katie Anne are taking their time tying the knot. Enter Annette Zeldin, a concert violinist in town from Paris with her young daughter, for her mother's funeral. Annette strikes most of the townspeople as foreign and haughty, but Ethan is smitten. In fact, he's so disturbed by Annette's presence that he firms up his wedding plans in an attempt to keep his life wrinkle-free. Predictably, Ethan and Annette fall in love, and Ethan tries unsuccessfully to break off his engagement. When a disastrous fire moves through the area, tragedy ensues and the lives of all the protagonists are irrevocably changed.
I thought this book was beautifully written, with a very different twist on a love story.
