This was an epic story about friendship that spanned over 3 decades. It was, in turns, sweet, bitter, hopeful, sad, and full of the greatest love. A wonderful story.
So yeah, I kinda loved it. I saw myself in Kate and I saw one of my best friends in Tully (though not really so extreme, or rich & famous!) I really enjoyed how fluidly Kristin Hannah was able to go between Kate and Tully sharing their stories, it wasn't clunky or awkward. I also was sort of expecting to have a long period of time where they didn't talk and come back together -- seems predictable -- but this isn't that kind of book where they were besties as kids and then only reunited as adults.
I appreciated how real and honest their friendship is and really did want to share this both with my mom and my best friends. I think I might go buy some used ones of Amazon RIGHT now for Christmas gifts!
And for the only SPOILER ALERT!

I actually really liked how at the end of the book when it was clear Kate was ill that it wasn't detailed in every single chapter and section. I mean, there were times when there were specifics, but it didn't feel agonizing and Kristin was able to gracefully and tactfully skip over periods of the illness that probably would have made the book feel tedious and like any other book where someone gets sick. I think she talked about it masterfully. I knew just enough to feel and hurt and smile; but was able to keep the book moving in a way that we didn't have to get each moment of time covered and I didn't feel like I was missing anything either!
