This book moved very fast! I enjoyed following Jacob as he tries to figure out why strange things are happening in and around his childhood home. The fact that no fireflies would come onto his property was creepy and then to find out that when they were forced by Jacob to come into his yard, they immediately died. What did it mean? Was there a connection to his dead parents, whose graves are in a field behind the house? And what about Carl....a cranky old codger that never wants to be bothered, yet he is always showing up at Jacob's door?
I liked Mr. Danksy's writing style. I am also a sucker for Southern Fiction, especially North Carolina, since this is where I live. This is the first novel of his that I have read, and it won't be the last. My attention was held throughout the book, and the ending was something not to be believed. I highly recommend it!
If you enjoy scary books, then this is a must- read for you. Southern Gothic Horror at it's best!

Plot was weak...no real explanation of the paranormal (we got the "who" and a rather weak "why," but not the "how"), and much too wordy. The excess musings weakened with the tension.
When Jacob Logan left home for college, he promised his mother repeatedly he'd come home. He never did to stay, and now sixteen years later, with both parents deceased, Jacob decides to go home to his small hometown of Maryfield, North Carolina.
When he had come home years earlier for his mom's funeral, he hired a local man and friend of his parents to be caretaker of the home. His name is Carl and Jacob doesn't trust him, but he seems to have done a good job on the house.
Everything is in working order and pretty much where it should be. But there are odd events happening. For instance, the fireflies used to swarm over the gravestones of his parents, and now they aren't. In fact, the fireflies swarm on the other side of the road, but when the shadows meet his property, the fireflies die.
Also, someone steals Jacob's car in the middle of the night and he gets no help from the local police. Carl brings Jacob groceries so he won't starve, but Jacob thinks Carl had something to do with it. Then another strange occurance happens. Someone puts his toy soldiers in a box and leaves it on Jacob's door stop. They should be in the attic except one Jacob kept as a good luck charm all his life. But that good luck charm was in his car that was stolen, and the box has ALL of the soldiers....weird. More strange occurrences happen in that house and Jacob wants out, but the house or the town is determined to keep him home.
Firefly Rain is chilling, disturbing and you won't want to read this unless all the lights are on in the house!! A great page-turner that will keep you guessing until the end. Mr. Dansky does a superb job of character development, building a believable backdrop and making what goes bump in the night seem horrific. Highly Recommend!!

This book was almost impossible to put down. I just couldn't stop reading. From the first sentence, I was intrigued, clinging to the story line, just waiting to see what was going to happen, waiting to see where the story would take me. I loved this book. Its the best Ive read in a long time. I keep wanting to say, Intrigue. The suspense will drive you crazy, I would almost expect this book to have been made into a movie it was so good. There were odd moments but later you truly realize why those moments needed to happen. Two thumbs way the heck up! What a worthy ride.
