I love this book because it tells about Laura and Manly's first few years of marriage. The manuscript was not prepared for publication by Laura, because it was not found until after her death. Therefore, the book is not as well-written or detailed as the previous Little House books. However, if you enjoy Laura's other books, this book will be of interest. I found out things about Laura's life that I never knew until I read this book.

This book is commonly rejected by LHOP series fans, but I really enjoyed it. Yes, it was a little different than the others in the series, but not all that different. I can't imagine reading all of the other books, and not this one!

Laura and Manly Wilder begin married life on their small prairie homestead with high hopes. The beautiful prairie world seems like a paradise; there are wildflowers in spring, wild geese in autumn, pony rides, and warm times together. But each year brings unforeseen disasters as well--storms destroy the crops; there is sickness, fire, and always unpaid debts. The first four years often prove heartbreaking for the Wilders. But they have each other, and their little daughter Rose, and a fierce determination to succeed.

What a depressing story. Of course it lacked a lot of detail than what her other books are because it was taken from a few journals found after her death (she was working on it for another book). Sad that we couldn't learn even more. It really is admirable to see how hard people worked in that time and how lazy we've become. Even after a stroke, Almanzo didn't give up! how amazing.
Last book in the Little House on the Prairie series. Laura marries and starts her new life with husband.

I have read the whole Little House series, and loved every moment. I kinda of hate getting ride of the books, but I know my boys wont read them. So instead of letting them waste, I'm passing them on. The books are different from the tv series. As much as I love the Tv series, the books are much better. This series is a classic and should be read by every child, well at least every girl...lol.
The first 4 years of Laura and Almanzo's married life on the pairie. They have high hopes, but their hopes are shattered. But they still have each other and Rose.
One of the Laura Ingalls series. Laura and Almanzo finally get married. Their life on their farm, the birth of their daughter Rose.
Beautiful Gift book. This is part of the Little house books but covers Laura and Manley's disapppointment over personal tradgedies such as losing every crop for 4 years due to drought or hail, losing their home to a fire, going into heavy debt, contracting a major illness that left Manley with a stroke and a disability, and finally losing a child just a few days old. This book was published in the 1970s, after the death of both Laura and Rose. A must-read for "Little House" fans, with the understanding that The Wilders had a hard life that Laura did not want to address much in her books.
