if this story is predictable, it doesn't detract from the fun you will have reading it. the waverly women are eccentric and emotional and electric and engaging. the supporting
cast of men in the book add the needed balance. if you love old homes and some magic, you won't be disappointed. favorite character: bay. she has the kind of confidence i wish i'd
had when i was 15. i read allen's first book in this series, garden spells, many years ago and hardly remember it. first frost stands alone beautifully.

What a joy this book was!
All the women, including teenager Bay, were well-fleshed out. The men not as much but the only man who counted in the story couldn't be.
I loved the touch of magic and want to go back and read the lead in (but standalone) book.
I will be looking for more by Allen.

It was good to get back to the original characters from Sarah's first book, Garden Spells, and see how their lives and families have progressed. First Frost brings us up to date on all of the immediate family (new members & deceased), and 3 or 4 other characters, but focuses on Sydney's teenage daughter, Bay. I'm not sure anything Sarah writes will be able to top the charm and joy of discovering her stories and her characters for the first time in Garden Spells, but it was a good runner-up.

This is a 5 star read. Ive had the book for a few years now and finally this October, I read it.
I hate I waited this long. What a beautiful book.
I did not read book 1, Garden Spells. I didn't feel as though I missed anything.
I loved the people, all of the Waverly family, the magical tree, the situations, the slight bit of romance. I cried in the end and it was an ending totally unexpected.
I totally recommend this book!
