Boyle lands on enemy soil before the North African invasion and is immediately in the thick of misfortune and crime. Nothing goes as he plans and his lady love is in dire danger too!

Once again we are dealing with a reluctant hero forced to risk his life for his country, as so many millions of other Americans and Brits did in WW II.

As Boyle stumbles from one suspect to another, and his Uncle Ike has to play distasteful politics to secure the American rear, it is the little things that finally leads Boyle to the real criminals. Tying all the facts together as a good cop would, Boyle finally commits murder himself and feels better for it.

The First Wave is a fast-paced detective novel, quite as good as the first of the series. Benn does a great job creating & maintaining the early WWII atmosphere throughout. Especially interesting was the focus on military medical secrets at the outset of the war.
