This is quite possibly the most juvenile book ever written. The sentence structure doesn't vary from subject verb, subject verb, subject verb. The sentences are six or seven words apiece, the words within them rarely over three syllables. It's clunky and cumbersome, and the story is predictable and uninspired; the plot is simple. Instead of "showing" her story, Steel chooses to tell the events like she's narrating a horse race. I'm amazed this woman is published. An eight-year old could finish reading it in an hour. Recommended for no one.

Two married people meet in Paris while he is on a business trip and she is fulfilling her political duty. Both have honor and integrity. Both have spouses. For five days they are drawn together for one magical moment. But the choices they must make after that is what makes this book special. A story of compromise and ambition. A story about choices. FIVE DAYS IN PARIS will change many lives forever. Great Parisian details, you will feel like you have been to France. Nothing extraordinary here, but a good read.

I find myself struggling to be patient with Danielle Steel as she over explains EVERYTHING about her character. She tells & I prefer my authors to SHOW. I have decided I can NOT read this after all.

Danielle Steel writes another interesting romantic novel about Peter Haskell, president of a pharmaceutical empire who meets Olivia Thatcher, wife of a famous senator. They meet in Paris and begin a love-affair that surpasses any expectations that they might have. Once they lay their emotions and thoughts out candidly to each other, they cannot go back to their old mundane lives. The book challenges all to seek for true passion and not settle for anything less.

Pretty good read by popular author Danielle Steel. Didn't like it as much as some of her other ones, but I still recommend it to Steel fans.

Peter Haskell, the debonair star of Five Days in Paris, has it all: a beautiful wife, three children, and a dreamy job. He's a magnate at one of the world's largest pharmaceutical conglomerates, Viotec, on the brink of revolutionizing cancer treatment. "It would be Peter's one major contribution to the human race," says the narrator--and if he can get it on the fast track toward approval by the Food and Drug Administration, he can mitigate the hell of chemotherapy for patients worldwide. Heady stuff, but it's nothing compared to what Peter finds in Paris at his favorite hotel, the Ritz, which he likens to heaven. "The brocades on the wall were a warm peach ... the fireplace apricot marble and the window and bedcoverings were in the same matching silks and satins." All Peter needs now is a beauty to match such decor, and he finds her in lovely Olivia Thatcher, the neglected wife of Anderson Thatcher, a powerful senator. Peter and Olivia meet at the Ritz, fall head over heels at Place Vendome, and have a 120-hour affair in the city of love. Back home, they find they cannot live without each other--a secret that, once revealed, could wreak havoc. Swirling with lust, politics, love, and epicurean appetites for the best life has to offer, Five Days in Paris has all the essentials of a classic Steel entertainment.

Olivia Thatcher is the wife of a famous senator. She had given to her husband's ambitions and career until her soul is bone-dry. She is trapped in a web of duty ad obligation, married to a man she once loved and no longer even knows. When her son died, a piece of Olivia died too.

The grand, operatic gesture dominates Steel's 36th novel, a tightly crafted, if utterly unsuspenseful, tale that pits honor against ambition in high places. Peter Haskell has it all: a beautiful wife, three great sons, a satisfying job as president of the world's leading pharmaceutical firm?and the formula for a new drug, Vicotec, that promises to revolutionize chemotherapy. Awaiting the results of a French specialist's final testing of Vicotec, Peter also has a hotel room at the Ritz in Paris, which puts him in proximity to fellow guest Olivia Thatcher, the wife of a Virginia senator whose eyes are set firmly on the White House. Peter's world begins to spin apart when he learns that Vicotec is not the miracle he hoped for but a potential killer. But of what importance is such a turn of events in the face of l'amour? This is Paris, after all, the perfect setting for Peter to approach Olivia one night; on the steps of Montmartre, the two realize that they are soul mates, and that their marriages are, in fact, empty. All too soon, however, the lovers must return to reality?Olivia, to her husband's offer of $1 million a year to stay by his side; Peter, to untold millions if he'll just fib a little bit about those test results; and so both must face their own, ultimate moral test. Steel leaves no cliche unturned in this garden of predictabilities, but the fauna is glitzy?Catherine Deneuve and Clint Eastwood make cameo appearances?the flora is bright and, in the end, all's well that end's well, which is, after all, the only way her fans would have it.

This, Steel's 36th novel, is an unforgettable, contemporary story about honor and commitment, love and integrity as the president of a major pharmaceutical company and the unhappy wife of a famous senator meet under dire circumstances in Paris--and everything in which they believe is put on the line.
