What a yummy cover. I expected this book to be a fun, hot little number, but it was just so much more. Flat-Out Sexy is a modern day fairy tale and Elec is a modern day Prince Charming! Elec and Tamara are two very likable characters, who you find yourself cheering for their HEA, while some complications are thought through by Tamara. While the escapades are very, very hot (satisfaction guaranteed), this story is relationship driven and all the characters involved you come to care for. This is book one in a Racing Series, all I can say is that I hope its the beginning of a 12 book series! The next book in the series is Hard and Fast. It will be released in May 2009 and will be the story of Imogen and Ty. She is Tamaras up tight assistant, hes the Godfather of Tamaras daughter and a playboy racecar driver. The preview in the back of the book makes me think May is a long time away!
This is my first Erin McCarthy book, and I think I have another author to gobble up their backlist!!! Thank you Ms. McCarthy for a book I cannot part with!

Love It! Love It! Love It! Elec and Tamara were smoking hot together! They couldn't seem to keep their hands off each other. Not only was this book steamy hot, it was laugh out loud funny as well. Elec is every woman's dream man; not only is he "flat-out sexy," he's caring, charming, great with her kids, attentive, and a great listener. (If only he was real and not a character in a book. LOL) Everyone has, or wish they had, a friend like Suzanne. She's absolutely hilarious. She and Ryder have an interesting dynamic that I hope will be explored further in a book of their own. I read the snippet at the back of the book which is Imogen (Emma Jean, lol) and Ty's story. From what I read it promises to be another sizzling hot read. I'm impatiently waiting to read it. I got this one from the library, but I definitely will be picking up a copy to add to me "keeper" shelf! Absolutely worth the read.
I fell in love with the characters of this book! I like Erin McCarthy, but I think Flat-Out Sexy is her best yet. I could not put it down! Tamara, a racecar driver's widow, literally bumps into a rookie driver at a fundraiser. While she thinks she is looking for someone more "boring" than a racecar driver, she quickly falls in lust with her rookie. I believe that McCarthy is going to make this a series...

I really enjoyed this book. I wasnt sure I would because the cover seemed to be trying too hard, but as they say, shouldnt judge a book by its cover because I loved this one. Great normal, family involving romance set along the backdrop of the racing scene. The story focuses less on the scene though and mroe on character development and their relationships which I loved.
I find some erotica tends to go heavy on steamy and light on story. This combined the content of a great mainstream romance with some HOT stuff.
The main characters were extremely likeable (LOVE Suzanne!) and I found myself wanting to read stories about all of them.
I do not keep much erotica-usually a catch and release sort of gal, but this one is staying on my keeper shelf.

This series is one of my favorites!! I have read Bk1-3 and can't wait to start on 4. The characters and emotions are real and make a believable love story. The plot is put together well and has a natural flow with just the right amount of sex from beginning to end to keep your pulse racing.

I didn't expect to like this book because I'm not into the racing scene but Ms. McCarthy surprised me. I particularly liked that Tamara was not a super thin heroine. She had body issues and had a terrible self-image and Elec Monroe loved her anyway!
I loved the statement from Tamara's best friend when Tamara was dating a total loser. "Unless that man over there is hiding a penis the size of an anaconda in his shit brown pants, you are too young, too pretty, too successful and too much fun to settle for that." Yeah that's what best friends are for!
Excellent book. I can't wait to read Imogen and Ty's story Hard and Fast.

Absolutely, positively LOVED Elec and Tamara's story. Can't wait for Ty's and Imogen's book. Even if you don't like Nascar, you'll like this book.

Couldn't find a thing lacking in this one - fun, sexy, steamy read with an amazingly well thought out and well written romance too. One couple's romance/estranged marriage was left hanging... hoping this gets resolved in Hard and Fast...

I love, love, love this book. A sexy hero who's great with her kids. :) I can't wait to read more in the series and I hope there are many. I am not a racing fan but that did not take anything away from the book for me. I highly recommend. Includes plenty of steamy love scenes.

This was a fun read. Not out of this world, but not bad either. Interesting peek into the world of racing. My one complaint was the hero's name; Elec. It just didn't read well. I kept changing it to Eric in my head.

Tamara Briggs is a widowed mother of two. Her husband Pete was a race car driver and died two years in a car crash. She has just started dating again and it trying to play it safe with a man who has a nice steady risk free job. The only problem is he is boring as dirt and she is not attracted to him at all. At a party she accidentally spills her wine all down Elec's front shirt and she can't help but notice how he fills out his shirt. The attraction between them sizzles immediately.
I have read one other book by Erin McCarthy, Heiress for Hire and I absolutely loved it. While I didn't like Flat-Out Sexy as much as Heiress for Hire it was still a satisfying read. Ms. McCarthy is a good storyteller. Her stories have a nice flow, good dialogue, enjoyable characters. Flat-Out Sexy is no exception. Elec (what kind of name is that) is a wonderful man. He is caring, thoughtful and completely focused on Tamara. Even though his is a race car driver and comes with high risk, Tamara would have to be an idiot to pass him up.
One of the best points in favor of this book was the realness to Elec and Tamara's relationship. Tamara and Elec's could be my next door neighbors and this book is the story of how they met. It's basically a simple story. No one needs protection from a stalker or psycho "bad guy". It is a story about two very normal people falling in love under completely normal circumstances. "Well, this sounds boring," you might say. Let me assure you that is not the case. The story flows beautifully and the cast of characters keeps things interesting.
There is a brief introduction into Suzanne and Ryder's story. Suzanne is Tamara's best friend and Ryder is another race car driver. They have a lot of baggage. They used to be married, but for whatever reason it didn't work out. I for one would like to find out. The secondary plots didn't distract, but instead only helped to enhance Elec and Tamara's relationship.

Spoiler alert.
It's no wonder romance gets a bad rap. The standards just aren't as high as most other fiction. I enjoyed this story until page 264, when the heroine, the widow of a race car driver, breaks off her engagement with another race car driver after he has an on-track accident, because she can't face the idea of being widowed again and because of the fear her children felt when he had his accident. These are legitimate fears, particularly the ones involving her children. So how does the author resolve this? By having the heroine's father-in-law give her a pep talk about loving the hero while she can.
Really?
Until romance editors raise their expectations and stop letting romance authors cheat when they've written themselves into a corner, the genre will continue to get no respect. If you want to be an author, you need to do the hard work of writing an honest ending.
The sad part is that I was enjoying this book immensely until I hit this cop out. Now I just feel cheated.

This was an very enjoyable contemporary story. It involves an older woman/younger man, and some scenes with children. It was racy without being erotic. The secondary characters were well developed. I can hardly wait for the next in this new series. It is a tender story full of emotions and a recommended read.
The story revolves around a rookie race car driver and a widowed mother of two former married to a race car driver. The challenges they face as they come to terms with their attraction to each other and their new relationship.

Really really liked this book. I don't even care for Nascar but enjoyed this book based around it. The female main character is older than the male lead character. She has a few body issues, which always helps with believability. Enjoyed the book..think you will too.
Erin McCarthy has a great way with bringing unique characters together. This is another solid effort. Very enjoyable.
I thought it was predictable wasn't impressed.
I saw this series when I first signed up for this site under the Listopia sports romance. At the time I was into everything hockey. Having read most of those romances, I branched out. And I must say, that I was really missing out. I really enjoyed this book. I gave it a 3.5 rating because of some areas I had problems with.
Books like this are making me change my mind on the whole older-woman-younger-man theme. I really enjoyed how Tamara Briggs had a very difficult time believing and accepting that Elec Monroe was really interested in her. She does finally accept his affections and have an HEF. There are bumps along the way and that makes for a very entertaining read.
By page 19 I was really getting fed up with the racing analogies. Not knowing any race car drivers, even local ones I was curious to know if they all think and talk in this manner. Do they?
I liked the fact that Tamara has a real life job, a professor. I would have liked to have the back story on this. Was she always one or did she become one after Pete died? And why sociology?
I really liked the sparks between Suz and Ryder. Suz sounds like a hoot and a great friend to have. Ryder's personality shows the next morning. I really loved that scene and laughed aloud. I did find it hard to belived that Ryder did not know the meaning of obtuse.
I was not sure when Tamara got Elec's phone number. She breaks their date after he places 3rd the next day and she sends him a text. She does not get her phone and bag until the race has started. She does give him her number, but I don't remember her getting his.
I feel that Nikki is too dumb. She misses everything all the time? I could not buy it.
I thought the whole Katie Sweeny was unnecessary. The most important thing was that Pete(y) Jr accepted Elec dating his mother. The woman did not have to be Katie, the female that broke his heart in 5th grade, but some ohter young attractive female.
On page 236, I liked the line, ". . . sexy was a matter of confidence than appearance."

Good story and likeable characters. There's some manufactured drama towards the end but it thankfully gets wrapped up quickly.
Great story and good start to a new series! Elec is smoking hot & he and Tamara make the perfect pair. Loved how the story gives Elec a ready made family that
he adores. Love the family dynamics of Elec & Tamara's
families. Very sweet story!

I picked this book up because of the abs on the cover. I bought it because it was on clearance. I read it because it's an excellent book! A nice balance of love and hot sex. The writing flows and I easily got lost in the story. I've added the rest of the series to my wish list and can't wait to read Ty & Imogen's story next!
Absolutely loved this book! Being a single mom at one time and 30 years old when I met my 23 year old husband, the feelings that Tamara voiced are spot on! Not only was this book romantic, loving and HOT, but it was realistic. And let's face it... the cover alone is enough to buy the book! LOL
Good read!
I loved this book, it will not leave this house!! I am hoping the next book is as good, I wasn't thrilled with Ty, so I hope she makes me like him!!! but Elec, well, being a bit older then 26, I know I'd love him for a boy toy.... and more!!!!
Erin McCarthy is a hit or miss author. I've read books that were such garbage I couldn't finish. Then there's a book like Flat-Out Sexy. I don't think I'd ever describe her books as great but she certainly can spin an entertaining yarn.
In this case the story is about a widow with two young children who tries to have a one night stand with a hot younger man. He, in the way of sexy men who in no way represent men in the real world, wants a relationship. He manages to find a place in her life, but only if they keep their connection a secret.
The story establishes some background for other characters about whom there will be future books. Overall a good start. That said, my experience with McCarthy is the first book is good, the second book is unreadable. I probably will end this series here!

I really enjoyed this book. I read Ty's and Imogen's story first so I already knew about Elec and Tamara. The story is great. Elec is a wonderful character, he is smart, sweet and sexy, what more do you want. I also love how much enjoys the kids and really wants to be a family with Tamara. I can understand her reservations for not wanting to continue the relationship, but I am so glad she did. Can't wait for Suz and Ryder's story!
This is Erin's best series to date! Very believeable characters, funny, sexy..perfect!
I was pleasantly surprised by this book and look forward to reading the next.
I loved this book. Great story. Hot guy and NASCAR what more can a girl ask for. Tamara kids were so cute. This is ones a keeper for me.
4.5 stars! Great story without the frustration of major misunderstandings, which focused on the sexual attraction and budding romance between a widowed mother and a younger race car driver. Also peppered with truly likeable characters that make you want to follow up with the next in series, Hard and Fast (Ty's & Imogene's story). I don't usually go for the contemporaries, especially sport-related, but this one was so enjoyable it had me scrambling to put the next one on my wishlist!
I would almost say I loved this book because of the dude on the cover, but that just wouldn't be right :-)!!!!
It was so much better than I thought it would be. Great characters, good dialogue, funny and heartwarming at the same time.
It's going to be a long winter until the next book comes out!

This is book no. 1 in the new "Fast Track" series from Erin McCarthy. And, believe me, it really sizzles.
Tamara Briggs, who lost her race-car husband to a bad accident two years prior, meets a dashing younger man, Elec Monroe, at a cocktail party. She decides to live a little and hop into bed with him for the night. In the morning, she realizes that 1) she's a cougar since he's about six years younger than her, 2) she went to bed with a race-car driver after promising herself she wouldn't ever do that again, and 3) she loved every minute of it. As she continues to bump into Elec, she becomes more and more torn in the relationship.
First of all, her deceased husband was from a racing family that's had a long standing feud with the family of her young lover. And, although her in-laws are helpful in caring for her small son and daughter, she knows they'll be disappointed if they find out the truth. Also, her children were devastated when their father died in the accident at the track. If she were to have a lasting relationship with Elec, would she have the heart to do that to them again?
This was an enjoyable, quick read. It was interesting to see how Tamara worked out the obstacles. And, the romance? It was smoking!!

loved it! on to book #2!
Very steamy story- fun characters! A very enjoyable read- I love Erin McCarthy's books!
This book was very good. It had some memorable characters, fantastic story, and some very memorable sex scenes. This book had a lot of explicit sex scenes and I only wish she would have developed the story and characters more, but other than that I enjoyed the book.
