Michael Lee West creates a wonderful small-town atmosphere in Limoges, LA in 1952. Her characters are some that you've known, might even be related to, or grew up with. I could feel the quiet desparation that DeeDee experienced and found my mouth watering over some of the recipes included in the chapters. A great Southern writer.

Excellent novel set in the South dealing with teen pregnancy, dallying clergymen, dallying husbands, domestic abuse and adult romances. I loved it!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had already read her earlier one called Crazy Ladies, but liked this one even more. Don't know which was more exciting: the lives, the deaths, the sex or the recipes!

A character study in small town life in the 50s. Has it's sex, scandal, drama and nut cases. Has more drama than comedy in my opinon but an enjoyable read. Rated at least PG 13 for adult content.

Delicious nostaligia, charming characters, raw human emotion, dispicible actions, brutal honesty of love and hate in the family unit. Loss, revenge, pain and love. This is a great book. If you were born in the 50's you will smile to yourself as you read some of the singers, and songs mentioned, if from the south, you will nod your head at the comfort foods, spreads on groaning farm table, efforts in the garden and twangy verbage. It's the kind of book you become part of, and hate when it's over.
