I was interested in this book because I really enjoyed Adair's locked room mystery / psuedo-parody The Act of Roger Murgatroyd and I am a movie fan. But this book was pretty disappointing. Lots of near-pycho-babble and not much actual analysis of the movies being celebrated, with much of the discussion veering off towards unrelated works. I think it would be much more appreciated by a true student of cinema, but my tastes run more to DeMille than to Truffaut and maybe this is a little too cerebral for my movie-fan tastes.
