The New York Times stated: "A mystery in the classic Christie-Carr-Queen manner," and if you enjoy those authors you probably will like Brand, too. But I find Brand to be a more subtle and nuanced writer. Her books, including this one, really delve into the psychology of the characters, and the final revelation sneaks up on the reader. A very enjoyable book.
A good copy of the 1979 edition of Chritianna Brand's classic with a new introduction by the author. From that introduction: "I'm sure it is most improper to say of one's own books that one likes them, but I must confess that I simply love mine. After all, if I didn't, I wouldn't publish them. And of them all, the one I love best is this book, Fog of Doubt (1953)
