This is an incredibly good read. I cannot recommend it enough. It is all the direct memories of ex-slaves. There is not alot of academic comment. They allow these people to tell their own stories. And I think these are stories that need to be heard. Utterly fascinating.

Quick read. I wish it were longer!
It is a great reminder of how recently slavery was abolished.
Great book for any age.
