Helpful Score: 5
Excellant book about relationships with mothers, unconditional love and friendship. A husband leaves his wife after learning she's carring and keeping a child with Rhetts syndrome. She raises the child alone with help from her mother and brother-in-law doctor. Easy read - couldn't put it down.
Good story about a single mother with a disabled daughter.
Good story, loved the characters and the intimate look into their complicated emotions. Excellent read.
The story of an extrodinary woman who raises an exceptional child on her own after her husband left her before the child was born. Blinded by despair it takes some time to understand that there are men in this world who care and are willing to wait. Luanne Rice is an excellent stort teller.
A wonderful read, heartwrenching, but wonderful all the same.
LOVE this book and author!
This is one of her best books/movies, I believe..there is also a movie with the same name. Two brothers in love with the same woman, one marries her and leaves her when he finds out the baby she is carrying will have abnormalties and he cannot deal with that..She does not know of the other brother's love for awhile..She has the child and supports her by herself and with her Mom's help, and a caring doctor nearby. She befriends a young girl who becomes her daughter's helper and it is wonderful! You just have to read it! Is one of my Absolute Favorite books!
If there were a 5 Star Review, it would be 5 Stars Plus!

Wonderful book, I love this author. I have read almost all her books. 1-5 I give it a 5
a novel of mothers, daughthers and the courage to love again.
I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book to everyone. If you have not read Luanne Rice yet don't start with this book. It was not her best but it is still worth reading.
Another moving realistic book by Luanne Rice. Abandoned by her husband before her special needs daughter is born; this is the story of an enduring love that her daughter shows that love comes in many forms, and can be received with as much grace as it is given.
great book- i read one of hers and went out to find the other 6 i have immediately.
What a wonderful book. It had good times and bad and was just a great feel good story.
very good reading
Nice story about a mother of a Rett's Syndrome daughter, her relationships, and her search for love.
Good audio book
Perhaps this is because it was abridged, but this wasn't among my favorite Luanne Rice books
Good read!
Not a bad book by any means, but this one didn't do much for me. I was hooked very quickly, and felt an immediate connection with the characters, but then it became a little mundane and predictable. The cliffhanger in the first chapter was probably the only reason I managed to make it to the end.
My Mom read the book and thorughly enjoyed it. Said it was a feel good story.
Life has not proved easy for single mom Dianne Robbins, of Gull Point, Conn. Abandoned by her husband, lobsterman Tim McIntosh, just before their daughter Julia was born with spina bifida and Rett syndrome--a debilitating physical condition and an autism-like disorder, respectively--Dianne supports herself and Julia by building children's playhouses. At the age of 11, Julia weighs 29 pounds, and there is no guarantee she will live much longer; yet she has a magical radiance. Despite the difficulties of caring for a severely disabled child, Dianne is never bitter, and her relationship with Julia is hope filled and loving. Dianne had also believed that her strong love would repair Tim's damaged self-esteem and save their marriage. Now she is wary of getting involved with a man again. But Tim's brother, Alan, who also happens to be Julia's pediatrician, has been secretly in love with Dianne for years, and his steadfast devotion may be just what she needs. Meanwhile, Amy Brook, an adorable 12-year-old from a troubled family (and a familiar device in Rice's novels), finds sanctuary in the Robbins household and becomes Julia's best friend; through Amy's example, Dianne finally understands what true love means.
With a startling sensitivity for human tragedy and the ability of the heart to heal, Luanne Rice has written a moving account of one woman's internal journey in Follow the Stars Home. Married young to Tim McIntosh, a passionate and charismatic fisherman with a troubled heart, Dianne Robbins expects a future full of happiness, security, and love. But when tests reveal that their unborn baby is severely disabled, Tim sails off for calmer waters. Faced with the responsibilities of raising her daughter Julia, Dianne finds support in Tim's brother Alan and her own mother Lucinda.
A decade later, Dianne has mastered the demands of nursing Julia and swears her life is completely fulfilled by these tasks. When Alan introduces Amy Brooks, a young and troubled girl, into Dianne's life, Dianne finds her heart opening and stretching in new and positive ways. As her mother Lucinda explains, "The biggest mistake any of us can make is thinking that love is a feeling, an emotion. It's not that at all. It's an action." And Dianne struggles over the choice to love again.
Beautifully written with exquisite moments of tranquility, Follow the Stars Home describes the multiple ways that love can be acted. With a dash of suspense included, this novel will keep readers' fingers flipping through the pages as fast as they can

A very good romantic read.
Sometimes we find the family we are always meant to have.
Great read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The only problem that i had with it was that it stopped all the sudden and i wanted to know what happen.
Pretty good story but not Rice's best work.
Good read

Abandoned by her husband Tim before their daughter was born, Diane has spent 11 years caring for the exceptional child's every need, almost alone, except for the town pediatrican, Tim's brother, in love with Diane.....
Anything by Luanne Rice is a good story and a tearjerker. This one is very good and has a good ending. Not all of her books have a happy ending but this one does.
A very, very good read about family relationships and love
Abandoned by her husband, Tim mcIntosh, before their daughter was born, Dianne Robbvins has spent eleven years caring for her exceptional child's need - almost alone. Tim's brother, Alan, the town pediatrician, has always been secretly in love with his brother's wife and continues as the concerned "uncle" until the truth is revealed......great story, great ending
Acclaimed novelist Luanne Rice "touches the deepest, most tender corners of the heart" (Tami Hoag, author of A Thin Dark Line). Her stories remind us how precious and fragile life can beand that we must risk our hearts every day to know happiness. Follow the Stars Home is just such a novel: a story of poignancy and heartbreak, grace and courage.
Being a good mother is never simple: each day brings new choices and challenges. For Dianne Robbins, being a devoted single mother has resulted in her greatest joy and her darkest hours. Weeks before her daughter was born, she and her husband, Tim McIntosh, received the news every parent fears. Tim had not reckoned on their child being anything less than perfect, and abruptly fled to a solitary existence on the sea, leaving Dianne with a newbornalmost alone.
It was Tim's brother, Alan, the town pediatrician, who stood by Dianne and her exceptional daughter. Throughout years of waiting, watching, and caring, Alan hid his love for his brother's wife. But one of the many hard choices Dianne has made is to close her heart toward any manespecially one named McIntosh. It will take a very special twelve-year-old to remind them all that love comes in many forms and can be received with as much grace as it is given.
As lyrical and moving as the poetry of nature, Follow the Stars Home is a miracle of storytelling that will take your breath away. If words alone can dare us to confront our fears and to choose joy over sorrow, then Luanne Rice's magnificent novel is a benediction and a call to celebrate our lives.
