I really didn't like Brax in "Sex & the Serial Killer", but in its sequel (Fool's Gold), he turned out to be a pretty stand-up guy who I began to root for and could hardly wait for the (hopefully) happy ending.
"Fool's Gold" picks up where "Sex & the Serial Killer" leaves off. However, it's not necessary to read them in order or to even read the "Sex" at all because it has very little to do with "Gold". "Sex" ends with Brax solving the murder of a close friend. He then goes on vacation to Goldstone, Nevada to his sister's to clear his head after the investigation.
Instead, he finds his sister in the midst of major marital woes and wants to help. While there he meets Simone Chandler, a closet author of online erotica. The two become involved in not only a hot, love affair, but also another complicated murder investigation that where everybody in town is a possible suspect.

Jennifer Skully is good. This is a fast read.
