When I started reading this book, it was not like I thought it would be. I found myself getting irritated with Millie for depending on a guy for happiness. But I fell in love with Sam in the beginning and I found myself rooting for him and not Joe. The last part of the book was the best and I'm glad I stuck with it!

I have mixed emotions about this book. I started it, put it down, read 2 other books, then decided to give it another go. The heroine bothered me a lot in the beginning. There she is, just finished with her residency, so she's a doctor, but emotionally she's still in junior high, which really doesn't excite me as a reader. Then there's the guy she's had a crush on for 20 years. She finally gets his attention and I really thought that, the way he is written, she was going to realize that, good looking as he is, he was mentally simple. Really. I thought he was. Instead the author asks me to believe that this 30 year old man is simply too immature to understand that a chaperon at a school dance shouldn't be giving the boys a bottle of alcohol. A real pity that the author used such tricks to drive her heroine into some else's arms because she really nailed writing the cop-hero. She should have done so well with the other characters.

I loved this book! Kristan Higgins made me laugh and cry out loud. It's more a chick lit book than a romance, IMO. I loved her easy writing style, and the way she made the main character, Millie, so real. I will be reading more of Ms Higgins books.

Surprising in that it has good writing and a different plot than usual romances, this is a story of a young female doctor who remakes herself into an image which will attract her long time crush, only to find sometimes it is better to not have dreams come true. You will like it.

Kristan Higgins is now one of my favorite authors. The characters are so full of life and laughter, rarely do I laugh, cry and sigh in wonder during one book. I'm picking up all her books and I recommend you do too!
