Serena Riverton, desperate to escape another probably-horrid marriage arranged by her anything-but-loving brothers, seduces Lord Francis. She figures she can tolerate being his mistress - it won't be as bad as anything she endured with her sexually abusive husband. She gets what she wants but with a surprise - real pleasure and true love with the sensitive Francis who's as innocent as she is jaded. Great romance. Highly recommend it

This book is different in a lot of ways. The heroine rapes the hero. Nonetheless, very good character development and building of relationship between the H/H.
Love Jo Beverly. This was another great addition to the Rogue series, however, there was a little too much 'drama' in the relationship than I care for. Still a great read and a must if you want to read the series.
A strong historical romance by Jo Beverly, whose heroines may lack experience, but not brains. This one grabs you on the first page.
Serena is finished with a bad marriage due to the death of her husband, now her nasty brothers plan on marrying her of again. She runs away and ends up in the midst of intrigue. lifht reading
4th in the Company of Rogues series...about Frances and Serena
This is the 4th Novel in Jo Beverley's Rogue series. A Romance Novel with a solid story line. Good Reading!
Freed from a cruel, depraved husband, Serena Riverton wants nothing more to do with men or marriage. Fate and her brother give her no choice. Serena seduces a handsome lord. But just one night will start a sequence of events that threatens to destroy them both.
Interesting plot. The heroine was pretty much taught how to be a prostitute by her first husband and the hero is a virgin. The switch of having the heroine be the more experienced one was refreshing to see.
I really liked this one. Couldn't put it down.
She is surviving after the death of her sexually abusive husband. She meets a great guy.
Francis Middlethorpe is a sweet, gentle and caring man, who is half-way in love with Nicholas's wife Eleanor but knows he must marry to ensure the continuation of his title and line. He is on the point of becoming engaged to Anne Peckworth, a duke's daughter; then he meets Serena Riverton, widow of a man dubbed Randy Riverton by the ton and whose marriage - entered into when she was 15 - had been an appalling, abusive sexual servitude. Running away from her brothers' attempts to sell her into another distasteful marriage, she wonders whether life as Lord Middlethorpe's mistress might be more congenial - so she seduces him.
As a result, Francis - being an honourable man - feels that he has no choice but to marry her. But the lack of trust between them, added to Serena's own preconceptions about marriage and sex, mean that their relationship is uneasy. A man who was a virgin until his wife seduced him, and a woman who views 'bed-work' as something to be endured and in which she must not display any reluctance, have a lot of difficulties to overcome.

I think this is my favorite of all Jo Beverley's Rogue series.
As is typical with Beverley's novels, there's darkness present--this time in the form of the humiliations of Serena's first marriage and how that affects her relationship with Francis. But it's a case of all's well that ends well. This story is somewhat bittersweet, and a part of me wonders how much difficulty they'll have making it work in the long haul.
It is a interesting story, the roles seem to be reversed in the bedroom and it shows the tension and unease each feels in that situation.
Nice thick book but I did start to wonder about mid way if there was going to be another issue other than his anger at her.
Have to say it did pick up and quickly became very interesting and was all in all a great read.
