I found this book to be a very touching. The pages of this book are very emotional and everything means more is charged with feeling from the brush of a hand to a glance from someone's eyes. A really great read.

Setting - England, 716 a.d. --- Whatever had possessed the Lady Rowena to buy a slave for 12 mancuses, she had no idea, but the deed was done. The big muscular thrall with silvery eyes like cold flint showed no deference for her lofty station - no, they held nothing but contempt. How dare it! Lady Rowena, could never be at the mercy of another ever again and knew she must show more courage than she possessed. Her life and the life of her daughter were at stake, and the thrall was brave - this she knew, and she would risk it's life if he could survive the dangerous mission she would put to him for the price of his freedom.
It's name was Wulf, a thrall - no longer a man but enslaved by a betrayal so bitter his rage alone had given him the strength to survive. Now this beautiful noblewoman had purchased him - for what - a plaything to whore upon? Trust would be a fragile link that might be breached between the two worlds they inhabited. Desire and revenge, betrayal and love would all come into play as human passions exploded between two people who knew better than to taste these forbidden waters.

My Amazon review - This was my first book by Ms. Kirkman, but it will not be my last. This was a challenging read - those who like simple sentences, one-dimensional characters and every bit of the plot foreshadowed for them won't like it. But if you enjoy characters with emotional depth trying to get through complicated situations with their love intact, and want an ending that you didn't see coming, this is a book for you. Wulf is a wonderful hero - brave, patient, tender and understanding when by rights he should be belligerent and hateful. Rowena is a strong woman trying to keep her family and people safe without knowing whom she can trust, finding herself in the bewildering situation of relying on someone who should despise her. It doesn't sound like there would be room for romance here, but there is and it's heartwarming. This goes on my keeper shelf.

GORGOUS AND EXCITING...A GOOD READ
a good read, and the beginning of a series of books by this author
To be honest, this woman's writing style was too much for me. So bogged down with descriptive adjectives. Yuck. Give me clean-writing style over this anyday. The storyline could have been much better without such an exhausting, over-done writing style.
He was for sale--a slave forced to do the bidding of others. Dangerous...and fascinating, but no mor than a thrall in chains. She was a Lady...........They were worlds apart.
I really enjoyed Forbidden. This book wasn't full of superfluous descriptions. The weight of the book is in the atmosphere of the book and the personal thoughts of the heroine, Rowena and the hero, Wulf.
The story line was ok., but the characters were so muddled.... It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to finish the book (I ended up reading the first sentence of each paragraph, or just the dialogue - boring) I wont be reading any more of this author
This is a midevil and a very good author. I think book sands on its own.
