This one was just eh. The idea that Jake was naive enough to think he couldn't go to his alpha and best friend about the situation with Rick and his father was just...childish.
If he was old enough and smart enough to be working on a masters degree in law, he should have known that the Hollands would have protected Rick from his crazy father.
And if ten years of torturing his mate and himself wasn't bad enough, it only took a few words from a strange beta to make him say 'eff it' and claim his mate?!
It wasn't terrible, but the plot was a bit over the top.
