This is book 6 and an outstanding conclusion to the Scandalous Women of the Ton. Absolutely loved it, I think this series is the best thing Nicola Cornick has ever written(so far!) The personalities in it are so strong, especially the heroines, not that there was anything wrong with the heroes either. But these were women who I felt I could have been best friends with if I were in the 19th century. I read the first 5 books some time ago and for some reason never got around to this one until now. But the characters from the previous books in the series were so memorable that I had no trouble recalling them. You could read this as a standalone, but why would you want to deprive yourself of some other great reads? My recommendation is to read them all in order.
The heroine, Margery, is a ladies maid who finds out she is actually an heiress who was kidnapped as a child. The hero, Henry, would have been the heir to the estate she is now inheriting. Both of them are great characters with strong principles, but not unrealistically perfect. The author really makes you feel their intense physical attraction to each other, and their very emotional journey to love. It is sexy, and those scenes are great, but they're not jumping into bed all the time. There is also a threat, someone who wants to get rid of Margery, which adds to the interest. At least one of the villains was a surprise to me. It's a wonderful story and makes me want to go back and reread the whole series, starting with the first book, "Whisper of Scandal".
