When twin alexander tries to stop a vampire from feeding on his younger sister, the vampire decides to turn rachel, alexander's twin sister, into a vampire. Greiving Rachel believes him dead, and tries to live with her new form, though it is not easy. THen someone starts following her and sending her little notes and another person wants to kill her to prove that he is stronger than she is. RAchel is playing a dangerous game... but losing means death.

I had such high hopes for this book, but I was severely disappointed. It was repetitive, redundant and contradictory to the point where I wanted to stop reading it altogether. The only reason I finished was to try to capture any redeeming qualities out of it. All I can say is it was a great attempt, but for me it sorely missed the mark.

This book like the others of amelia is VERY GOOD! Amelia is my favorite author. I have read all of her books and can't wait for new ones to come out. This book was one of her first book which she wrote when she was 13! Can you believe a 13 year old could write a best seller? Amelia writes in a way that puts you in the characters shoes and I love it. I feel like I'm Risika/Rachel.

Good beginning to a series. The main character tells the story while alternating between times. Rachel was turned into a vampire in the early 1700. Later goes by the name of Risika. A quick read for an afternoon and aimed for a teen audience.

For having written this novel when she was 13, Amelia did an amazing job. Not many 13 year olds could accomplish what she did with this book. The story line is good but doesn't involve a lot of in depth conflict or action. So it serves as a good YA read but may not hold your attention as an adult. You can really see how she improves/grows in her writing abilities throughout her following novels.

I've never been a fan of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. Her books seem a bit like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer wannabe novels. This one in particular bored me to tears. I suppose that reading it after reading Anne Rice probably distorted my view of the book. For having written it as a 16 year old, she is probably a good writer. But, her books play too much on old superstition which is fine if you want to read a modern day version of Dracula.
