I read itr when I was in my teens.  While considered somewhat risque when it first came out, by the time I read it, it was pretty standard bodice ripper stuff.  Nothing particularly interesting about it.

I didn't really like Forever Amber, but if you are looking for good, older, historical romance, I would suggest:

Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers

Tears of Gold, Laurie McBain

Empire of the Heart by Jasmine Cresswell

If you look these up & they are to your taste I can recommend more. :)
