This is an author for me to follow for sure. Very good story, not unique other than in the way it is told. Beautiful writing, some of the best I've read. Told through the eyes of a child, the descriptions of her loss, the family's loss when their father unexpectedly dies, is so stark, raw. The creepiness of the villain starts small, then increases with every meeting, building just the right amount of suspense, tension. And the mother's life-changing decision is a punch in the gut, even though you see it coming. I stayed up late with this one, racing to a controversial ending that I'm sure many will negate but that I just loved.
