This writer has a reputation of writing romantic comedies and she lives up to it in this selection. In the story, Amy, who dresses up as a clown and entertains children on a local tv channel, is replaced on the show by a dancing chicken. She's bitter and upset, but meets Jake, the local veterinarian, and takes a job as secretary in his clinic. While their romance is blossoming and her pain over being upstaged by a chicken is going away, Clarence The Rooster becomes sick and is admitted into Jake's vet clinic for emergency medical care. The following morning, the Rooster has disappeared, Amy shows up at the clinic and the press learned she brought in chicken soup, and the feathers (and the puns!) begin to fly.

Some parts are toooooo funny. The main characters are endearing, the romance is pretty hot, and the humor never ends. All in all, it's a very enjoyable and quick read.

I didn't catch this one when it originally came out, so I can't say if it's been updated at all for the 20 years since it was first published. I did notice that heroine carries a digital recorder, not a tape recorder. However, things which are ubiquitous in our lives, such as cell phones, MP3 players, computers and internet, are never mentioned; so, seeing as the text itself does not mention the year in which it is set and the book is presented as a contemporary, it has an odd timeless other world quality for me - neither 1989 nor 2008.

Nevertheless, I liked the characters well enough and I appreciated the humor. If you're looking for in depth realism, emotional or contextual, you won't find it here -- but it's an agreeable way to kill an hour -- much better than watching a sitcom on TV.

Typical of the Evanovich romance books...cute and humorous. Not as funny as some of the others, but still a few good laughs. Amy has the "Stephanie Plum" feeling of being completely clumsy and accident-prone with trouble following her around...makes for a funny few scenes.

A very quick read...short and fun.

One of Evanovich's early goofy romances. The plot? Who cares, hers are all fun! Author is working her way up to her Plum series.

After reading the Stephanie Plum novels, I thought I'd try out Evanovich's other books and this one doesn't disappoint. It has Amy, a television clown entertaining children, who gets fired and replaced by a chicken. Then she is saved by a handsome veterinarian named Jack. This story was a quick funny read, with romance and mishaps thrown in.

Like all of her books this one was a hit for me. Loved it from the get go, I mean she loses her job to a chicken... a chicken! And then the chicken dies making her a suspect in its "murder" how can that not be funny? The only thing wrong with it was it ended *sighs* I was enjoying it way too much.

Early Evanovich screwball romance, in which a kids' TV show hostess gets replaced by a dancing chicken, who then disappears. There's a hunky veterinarian and various hijinx before all is resolved.

This is a fun easy to read book.....As Janet Evanovich books usually are the story is outrageous and laughable....but the romance is true to heart.

This book although not in the Plum series. Has a main character smiliar to Stephanie Plum. The book is a quick read but there are smiles on every page. Light amusing reading. A pot of tea or coffee a comfortable chair and a cold winter evening. Perfect!

Enjoyable. Different from the One for the Money, Two for the Show series. Don't have to worry about what order these books are read in.

When Dr. Jake Elliott watches a young woman walk into a Safeway and single-handedly waste the place, he decides hes in love. Amy Klasse is not having a good day; shes just lost her job on TV (as Lulu the Clown) to a dancing rooster. While mulling over her misfortune, Amy doesnt notice that she has created one disaster after another in the grocery store.

Jake notices that Amy, as she emerged from her red car, locked her purse and keys in the vehicle. He offers to pay for her groceries if she will cook a meal for him. When Amy starts to turn him down, the grocery clerks give a character reference for the good vet.

Hearing Amys tale of woe, Jake promptly offers her a job as receptionist. When conferring with his partner, the two men wonder if they can afford a receptionist. Before long, they wonder how they worked without a receptionist/organizer; Amy is a whiz.

This is a cute story with several laugh-out-loud moments. It also has more plot than usual, for an Evanovich book. This is a very quick read. 3.5 stars

Fun, easy beach read. This is one of the dozen books she wrote prior to her success with the Stephanie Plumb series. Gave it 3 stars.

This book was really funny. It's not as good as her number novels, but it still has Evanovich's famous humor. I liked it.

A fast read. Good humor. Characterized as a screwball comedy romance it involves a woman's struggle with losing her job to a chicken and love at first sight. This book was written under the author's alias of Steffie Hall.

Amy (also known as Lulu the clown) loses her job as the host of a local childrens' television program to a dancing Rhode Island Red Rooster. At the grocery store, she meets a handsome veterinarian and becomes his receptionist, his lover, and also his sleuthing partner when one of his patients goes missing.

This is a short book that can be read in one sitting, (the font is VERY large.) I am writing this review now because I will likely have forgotten what this book was about by tomorrow, but I did enjoy it because it had a chicken and a few good one-liners.
