A double shot of espresso couldn't jolt Markie Walkowicz more than discovering a stiff on her stoop. After calling 911 from the closet (what, you thought she'd be searching for clues?) the only one to come to her rescue was Detective Zac Marshall--her longtime former friend--who announced there was nobody...er, no body on her stoop. Marquette "Markie" Walkowicz, has a lifelong history of losing things. It all started when she was twelve and lost her little brother at the Smithsonian, and now shes lost the dead body shed found minutes before on her front porch. In between the two incidents she lost a lot of jobs, lost her virginity...and lost a fiancé, which was bad. Not only did she lose him, but she lost him minutes before she walked down the aisle, which was worse. Now the detective sent to investigate Markies missing body is her almost-husband's friend, Zac Marshall. Of course, once upon a time shed thought Zac was her friend, too, but when he told her that Joel wasnt the man for her the night before her wedding, then Joel left her at the altar, she was pretty sure who was to blame. Zac must have talked Joel out of marrying her. Talk about worse...having to deal with Zac about this missing corpse is worse-r!

Dealing with a missing corpse is so much easier than dealing with the sparks that are flying between them. Even when the corpse keeps showing up. Markie and Zac solve the mystery, but can they solve the mysterious reaction they have to each other?

this is a good book if you want to kill a few hours with a fun romance.
The characters were all working class folks who actually had to work for a living and not the usual executive or millionaire in most series romances.
This is a great book for anyone wanting a lighthearted romance.

I've had this book sitting on my shelf for a while and never thought I would read it. but one day I just needed something different so I picked it up. I was really surprised actually at how quickly I got into the story. It's an easy read and unlike all the other romances I have ever picked up, the people seemed like real everyday people, not sex gods.
I enjoyed this because it quick, a bit of a mystery, a nice amount of sexual tension, but not so much that it was overwhelming (cept the end got a bit mushy) and best of all it made me laugh. I don't read all that much, but it's been a long time since I laughed out loud at something in a book.

I would recommend this to those out there like myself. Want a quick romance that's not so overwhelming and has more to it then just that romance. Fun book.

Merges a mystery with contemporary romance. Set in Philadelphia, the basic story concerns two long-time friends, Markie and Zac, who come to be more than just friends. Their relationship is complicated by meddling mothers as well as their past history, including a ruined wedding day for Markie that she has partly blamed Zac for. Tone remains fairly light despite the mystery, which concerns the identity of a corpse found at the beginning of the story. A fun, easy read.
