This was a warm, comforting novel, kind of like having your grandmother over to look after you and cook your favorite meals for you. Pezzelli mixes the warmth of a woman who loves her family with the smart-alecky attitude that living a lot years entitles her to. I loved the how the relationship between Francesca and Loretta and the kids grows, from wary and cold, to warm, loving and trusting.
It has a familiar feel to it, whether you are Italian, Irish, or in my case, Portuguese. The family ties and familiarity ring true, and watching the romance described within blossom as two families come together was really heartwarming.
This was a very rich book, with some inside jokes for those of us New
Englanders familiar with Rhode Island and her eccentricities. The familiar landmarks and descriptions of the area and the weather truly made me homesick for the area I grew up in and around.

A funny and moving story of Francesca Campanile. Francesca was the queen of her home, dispensing advice as liberally as she did garlic, arguing nonstop with her son and two daughters from the kitchen of her Rhode Island home. Now, with her children and grandchildren too far away, the widowed matriarch is rudderless. Then, an ad in the local paper leads her to a single mother who needs help a few hours a day.--needs love, guidance, a lot of lasagna, and her??

I really enjoyed this book...a wonderful, down to earth story, that shows how an aging woman finds contentment in her changing life. This story would be appealing for any age.
