Suzanne, a young 13-yr old French girl from Cherbourg, France encounters the beginning of WW II in the bombing of her city. The Nazis soon occupy France, her town, and her families' life changes drastically. Through it all Suzanne persists to become an opera singer albeit the displacement of the family from their home, rationing of food, and other obstacles encountered. Suzannce becomes a spy for the French resistance in the fight for her country's freedom during the war. A most interesting read.
