French Milk came highly recommended to me but I knew it was a graphic novel and I opted to wait for a swap copy (I feel so gypped when I buy books that are essentially comics). I was really disappointed. It's about the author's 5-week trip to Paris with her mother and it's pretty much a litany of where they went, what they ate and bought and the various frustrations of the author (including the fact that she missed sex -- add that to a lot of comics of nude artwork and I would disagree strongly with the reviewer who says it's for kids). I liked the photographs of the author, her mother and Paris more than anything, but they are mostly subpar as photographs go. I respect people who enjoy the book because it does give you a decent sense of place but it simply wasn't for me.

Just what a graphic novel should be. I feel I have been to Paris with Lucy and her mom.

A sweet little graphic novel about a girls stay in Paris with her mom. It reminded me of reading someone's scrapbook about a holiday. It was enjoyable in a different way than the usual sort of travelog type novels.

I wish that I'd know ahead of time this was not an actual READING book. This was more like a comic book. I ended up just flipping through the pages & looking at her drawings instead of reading the comments on the page.

Lucy Knisley's graphic novel, "French Milk",is honest and funny and charming and I enjoyed it immensely. I can't wait to read her next graphic novel and I'm planning to explore the genre now.

This is a quick read with cartooning. It is a book for the mature reader. It does contain graphic pictures of nudity drawn by the author. I did enjoy reading the cartooning script of the author and mother's vist to Paris. Overall, a good book.
A young 22 yr old aspiring illustrator gets to spend 5 weeks in Paris with her mom. Every day she fills her journal with the touring and observations they encounter. Most of the journal is her drawings which are a pleasure to look at. This is the true voice of a young adult on the edge of entering the real world and taking in all there is from an old world.
This is NOT a book for kids. Adults are allowed to read graphic novels and this is one of them.
