Review first published on my blog: http://memoriesfrombooks.blogspot.com/2012/08/friends-forever.html

I feel like I should begin with a disclaimer. I read Danielle Steel books. I went through a phase of my life when I read through pretty much everything she had written. Then, for a while, I felt that the reality of life went so far beyond these books that they seemed contrived and unreal. Yet, I continued to read them. Recently, I have not particularly liked the books. Yet, when one comes out, I read it. That being said, I am glad I read this one.

Friends Forever is the story of Andy, Billy, Gabby, Izzie, and Sean who meet on the first day of kindergarten and become an inseparable group of friends. The story follows the "Big Five" as they grow up and grapple with the issues of growing up. In particular, a central focus of the book becomes the challenges of changing family ties, and the use of alcohol and drugs in teens and young adults.

I enjoyed this book much more than I have recent Danielle Steel books. The characters in this book seemed more real as did the situations. As a parent, I feel that the message of this book is an emphatic one and a necessary one. The book still has the dramatic elements that will appeal to Danielle Steel fans, but this books offers a little bit more.

I am glad I have persevered in reading her books. Wonder what the next one will bring?

I am a fan of Danielle Steel, not an uber fan I don't chase down every book like I do other authors. I am so glad that I picked this book up on a whim.

The story is about a group of five kids who meet in kindergarten and form a lasting friendship. Each of the five main characters each have their own unique personalities. You have Izzie (the caretaker), Gabby (the super beautiful and cool), Andy(the future Dr.), Sean (the law and order type), and Billy (the sports guy). We follow these five from kindergarten, jr. high, high school, college and careers.

I became immediately attached to the characters and was truly affected by the story. This is one of those books where I just want to tell the whole story and discuss it with someone. I will say if you have a tendency to cry when reading a book, then get the hankies ready. This is definitely a tear jerker and I don't usually cry during books and I cried like four different times.

This book is really a great story about friendship, it touches on overly involved parents who live their dreams through their children and the pressure kids feel. It also touches on the dangers of alcohol and drugs. I can't begin to tell you how great this book is. I can't imagine someone reading it and NOT loving it.

I usually don't write reviews, however this time I will make an exception. This had to be the most depressing book I have ever read. If not for the fact that I paid good money for it I would have stopped reading after the first 4 chapters. So if you like books that bring you down this is the one for you.
