Pretty good book. It's a good read for early teens.
This is the first of three books about a young girl who ultimately ends up holding her family together through many difficulties as her dad decides to move the family west looking for better land to live on. I found it quite gripping and was very excited when I found there were two more to follow up the first one and finish a great story based on facts during that time period.
The second book in a triology by Mary Jane Auch about a young girl who moves with her family into the unsettled "Genesee country" in New York. Although the writing was stunning, I felt this was a disappointment after the first book. I kept thinking the plot would get better, but it didn't, and it ended very morbidly. I think this is a let-down, and very depressing. I wouldn't recommend it.
this book was cutie!! MeM is so young but does so much! it really shows how back then people help each other and you shouldnt let your pride get in the way a asking for help like her father! its funny, cutei and touching.
It's 1816 and Remembrance Nye and her family are enduring a cold, hard summer in their new home in western New York. There's barely any food, since Papa's crops were destroyed by the late frosts. Mem's mama has never gotten used to their new home and finds it even harder to cope after she gives birth to baby Lily.
