A engaging mystry in a too-little-known series.
Plot keeps the reader interested and engaged although I do wish the author elaborated more on how Simon came to his conclusions and solves the mystery. Still worth reading.

My Review
This series is great for the amount of history of the 50s and the Appalachians the reader can learn about in North Carolina. We got introduced to Simon's family in this installment. The book is well plotted and the characters are very interesting. I did not figure out who the murderer was until the big reveal at the end of the book. I've now read the first three books in the series and look forward to the last two. If you enjoy cozies that are well written then you would enjoy this book too!

Got this book through BookCrossing and it was a new series to me - I wasn't expecting much, honestly because I'm usually not big on cozies about men..but this was a pleasant exception. Simon Shaw is a history professor at a small college in Appalachia (already an interesting concept) who is asked by a convict to solve a 40 year old murder...I found Simon and his family more interesting than the mystery itself but I would definitely read another Simon Shaw mystery...in fact, I've requested one here on paperbackswap.com!
