When Patrick Norris returns home after serving a year in Afghanistan, things aren't the same. He has some PTSD that he's dealing with. His older brother has some mental problems of his own and the family avocado farm has been devastated by a wild fire. Patrick puts his plans on hold to help save the farm.
This book was a real departure for Parker from his usual crime novel. This one centers on the family dynamics and doing what you have to do to survive. I especially liked the way the author focused on how hard it was for Patrick to find his place after being in Afghanistan. Well worth the time I spent reading it.
