I couldn't put this book down. The ending is certainly a surprize. Great reading as always.

7th book in the series. Kinsey solves a 40 year old mystery that is full of murder and coverups. She meets a man and becomes intimate with him. Making you wonder about her relationship with Jonah.
Classic Grafton. Part of a series, but stands well on it's own. Good plot, well-written, finely crafted mystery.
I've never really gotten into mystery novels until I picked up Sue Grafton. Her books are all highly entertaining and now I look forward to finding good mysteries.

Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series keeps getting better. I couldn't put this book down, but didn't want it to end. There are a couple intertwining plots that keep you guessing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characterization in this book, especially that of the crazy mother who, at the beginning of the book, is missing in the desert. The second mystery is that someone is trying to kill Kinsey! I loved there being a double plot to this one. Kudos to Grafton!
This is a great story in the "Kinsey Millhone Series". This mystery kept me turning the pages and I finished the book in two days! Could not put it down! Sue Grafton's description of her surroundings and her ability to create "humorous characters" keeps the story rolling!

PI Kinsey Millhone is searching for a missing 83 year old woman. When she finds her, Agnes is suffering from dementia and seems scared to death about something. She is relocated closer to her daughter and immediately escapes the nursing home. Strange things come to Kinsey's attention and suddenly she is investigating Agnes' life because nothing seems to add up regarding this family. While this is going on, Kinsey finds out that someone she's once hunted down has put out a contract on her life. In between running for her life, she's nvestigating Agnes' troubles.
This is a short novel but one of the better ones involving Kinsey. Very suspenseful and Kinsey even gets to experience a little romance.

I like this book
I am enjoying the Sue Grafton series. Listening to her escapades and how she figures out how the investigation ends is exciting. She is just very entertaining and her books keep my attention.
Great as always! I really like her and hope that she thinks up something after the alphabet series is spent! The Kinsey character is someone who I have come to enjoy getting to know!

Another great book! Well written! Kept my attention!
Kinsey almost plays second fiddle in this one, getting into jams by herself and getting out of them with the help of others. It seemed as though she was just along for the ride. Nevertheless, it was an excellent story, well worth the read.
I have enjoyed every one of these alphabet mysteries from Sue Grafton. If you enjoyed any of them, you'll like this one too!
Sue Grafton series are really good, if you have never read them you need to start at the begining. I know you will enjoy them like I did!
In some ways this is my favorite of the series so far, and it's because of the assassin plot. Okay, it is kind of over the top, but I liked all the action, I liked Kinsey's very human reaction to being in jeopardy, and I liked Dietz. The missing mother plot was interesting although you have to wonder why this very odd woman, avoiding people for most of her life, seizes on Kinsey to try and tell her secret in her last moments. Kinsey once again makes some rather ill-considered moves - at times she shows a distinct lack of common sense - but that's her character. One thing that did bother me is that Grafton set up what I thought was a "Chekhov's gun" scenario, and I kept waiting for her to pull the trigger but it never happened. Just a loose end I guess.

With Dietz watching her for the merest sign of her usual recklessness, Kinsey plunges into a case that will lead her to the gruesome truth about a long-buried betrayal. And in the process will bring her face-to-face with her own mortality.
Grafton is almost always good for a compelling read; this is one of her better books.

But the lady mysteriously disappears within hours of her arrival. Painfully aware of the fact that a contract has been arranged for her own murder, Kinsey unravels the events of the past clue by clue, narrating the action-filled story in a realistic, easy-to-read, informal style. Less motivated students are sure to appreciate a character with a respectable, exciting job without having had a college education; although Kinsey had police training, her bodyguard freely admits he left high school but later took an equivalency test. This light mystery maintains interest to the end; everything happens quickly.

Really enjoy the Kinsey Millhone character. Good plot and twists and yet a very easy read. Kept me interested until the very end.
