I love Southern fiction and this was no exception. This is a wonderful debut novel from Mindy Friddle. The characters are quirky, funny and believable. Ms. Friddle paints beautiful pictures with her words and I felt like I was sitting on Cutter's crumbling old porch watching the story unfold. So cozy and warm, I hated to see it end. Can't wait for her next book.

I really enjoyed this tale about the redemptive power of friendship, as well as touching on the nuances of living in a family in which you don't quite fit.

when this very slow moving novel finally gets to the end...it ends well
but getting there is ponderous. this being her debut book, i hope she gets better editors next time!

This book started slowly for me, and I almost put it down. However, I am glad I persisted.
The major characters are rather dysfunctional, but as the story "gells", they work quite well together to advance the story. The quirkiness of the small town setting adds to the development of the story. Plot twists keep one's interest.
If female fiction or Southern fiction appeals to you, you will like this book. I certainly enjoyed it.

This is a great first novel by Mindy Friddle. The Garden Angel is found in the family cemetary in the back yard of the Johanson family home. Cutter spend the entire story trying to save the family home from being sold as her sister and brother want the money over the family heritage. The book is a mix of laughs and sadness as the action unwinds. I enjoyed the book and wanted to know more about the characters even after the story ends.

This book seemed to start out slow for me, but I stuck with and am glad that I did. I ended up loving the characters and how they helped each other through difficult times in their lives. The ending really surprised me, in a good way. Not at all what I would have expected, which I always enjoy. There were some quite humorous scenes that made me laugh out loud. Cutter is a unique character and somebody that it would be fun to hang out with.
