A delightful, funny garden memoir of one man's challenge in making of a garden in the province of Lucca in Italy. Gervais shares in detail his inspirations, dreams, and revelations, and the making of 'his' garden. He shares how he becomes a gardener; paints a picture of the Tuscan countryside, tells funny stories along the way in his book. A great read, as well as great info. on gardening and landscape ideas. A book to be enjoyed by many.
This book was charming. It reminds me of a combination of "A Year in Provence" and "Under the Tuscan Sun". The author has an easy style of writing that draws you in. Although the main storyline is the evolution of the gardens that he creates around his Italian farmhouse, there are many aspects of the Italian experience included as well. The people, customs, food, and architecture are all characters in this book. As an amateur gardener myself, I loved all the discussion and details. As a reader, I really liked the overall story.
