Overall liked it, unusual ending for a police-procedural, or whatever you call this genre. A somewhat less satisfying Joe Gunther than the others I've read so far.
"Joe Gunther's picturesque, rustic Vermont is getting darker...and more dangerous. In the course of one week a young heroin addict is gunned down while trying to rob a convenience store, a narcotics dealer is found hanging from a bridge, and the granddaughter of a political bigwig dies of an overdose. Now the head of the state's Bureau of Investigation, Gunther assembles a team to stop the violence. Female detective Sammie Martens goes undercover to infiltratea pusher's operation and Detective Lester Spinney battles a problem closer to home. For Joe Gunther, the war on drugs has become personal - and agonizing: His girlfriend's niece was the convenience store victim. Can he fight to save countless lives...while risking those he loves most?"
A Vermont detective? Who would have thought they had drug gangs in Vermont?
