I felt this series could have been a bit better, but the author's growth is evident by the third book. Where he started out sounding like a DM leading a D&D game, now he sounds more like an author telling a story.
Great characters and cool events. This one was really different but still fit into the series well. The ending felt kind of rushed and abrupt, but the author has said he will explain the ending in a future book continuing this series.
A little above the quality of the usual D&D pulp fare. Recommended.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this series. The first book was the best, but it was worthwhile reading the other two to see how the story ended up.
Wonderful series, left open at the end.
