Martha Kirkland is one of my favorite Regency authors. Always has a wonderful story and fun characters.
Martha Kirkland wove an interesting story with A Gentleman's Deception. Robert Montford was troubled for his widowed godmother, whose spirits were in a perilous decline. The only restorative would be news of her long-lost daughter, for whom he had instigated a search. Then one night at the theater he saw a vision of beauty who uncannily resembled that daughter. Isabel Trenton earned a precarious living as the star of a rag-tag traveling troupe. It was fraught with annoyances - first the unwanted attentions of her odious manager, and now this forward gentleman's assumption that her profession made her a natural hired deceiver. Incensed, Isabel was not about to oblige..until an unexpected turn of events throws them together. Many twists in the story line made for a great story. Isabel's change was gradual as she and Robert encounter both unprovoked and provoked enemies.
