This book was fabulous! The writing is witty and fun, the stories are fast paced and interesting, and the contrasts between the countries is remarkable. I'd recommend Bliss to anyone interested in travel or culture. It makes you wonder whether the people of an area make the personality or if the personality of the area makes the people?

This book was a fun read. I couldn't wait to read where the author was going next and what he was learning from the people and the environment. He travels all over the world, making interesting observations about the communities. While happiness is a very subjective thing to measure, his descriptions give you a strong sense of how happy or unhappy the people he encounters truly are--regardless of how happy they describe themselves to be.

Funny and semi-profound. The author visits 10 countries (The Netherlands, Switzerland, Bhutan, Qatar, Iceland, Moldova, Thailand, Great Britain, India, and the US), ostemsibly searching for what makes people happy, but really writing an amusing travelogue.

Intelligent, well researched exploration into different cultures and experiences. Entertaining yet subtly thought-provoking.

Pretty funny, semi-profound. He writes a lot like Bill Bryson, or maybe Po Bronson. It's a lot like "Eat, Pray, Love" (I guess I could say that even if I haven't read "Eat Pray Love"), he travels to about 10 countries. I don't think he suffered enough to find true happiness.

Reading this book itself made me happier. I had several incidents that would have tested anyone's patience (like missing a flight and being held on the waitlists for 8 hrs with a 1 year old!!) and luckily I was reading this book. I took a break from what was frustrating me and read this book and naturally my spirits were lifted. My situation just wasn't that bad anymore. I ended up buying the book (my copy was loaned) because I new I needed it on my bookshelf before I even reached the end. Great read.
Definately NOT a self-help book, but it did bring about a sense of gratefulness.

Would explain why you can usually get discounted air fares to Moldova.
