A powerful book taking place during the WWII in Germany. Anke is a midwife in a labor camp, and she tries to help all the women there, under dire circumstances. She is chosen to be brought to assist at the birth of Eva Braun's baby. She is taken from the dregs of the camp and brought to a fine mansion where she is fed, clothed and housed. She develops a rapport with Ms. Braun, even though the thought of delivering Hitler's baby disgusts her. The author is actually a practicing midwife.
