The Haus am Checkpoint Charlie Museum is Rainer Hildebrandt's lifework. It is situated at what is now the former crossing point between the American and Soviet sectors. Since 1963, it has documented many of the fates of those who have planned or attempted an escape from Eastern Germany to the West. It also serves as a location for exhibitions and discussion groups on national division and resistance, as well as on human rights and human rights abuses. This publication adds a further element to his lifework with his articles that appeared in the Berlin "Tagesspiegel" newspaper between 1949 and 1993, Rainer Hildebrandt constantly drew West-Berlin readers' attention to incidents in the East.« less
