Seldom do I breeze through a book in less than a day, but, this book I did. Most women could relate to the heartbreak that Ashleigh, the main character goes through. Ashleigh isn't too experienced in the dating realm. She goes to a Christmas party and she meets a seemingly nice and normal man named Michael who asks her out, from then on for 2 years they date. Ashleigh imagines that they will get married or live together, even though Michael seems more than comfortable living on his own and he never offers to have her live with him.

Then one day out of the blue on Facebook no less, Asleigh sees that Michael has changed his status to "No longer in a relationship" with absolutely no explanation to Ashleigh. From then on Ashleigh gets out of control trying to get Michael back. She ends up endangering herself, her job, her finances and her sanity while trying to get Michael back. She matures, but, she has to learn the hard way like so many of us women do.

This is chick-lit with a comical twist. It is written by a British author, so some references in the book Americans may not be familiar with. I enjoyed this book and could see my much younger self in some of the things that Ashleigh did or thought. Though, I never got quite as crazy, there were many times I cringed with embrassment for Ashleigh. This book made me think of my single days after my divorce, and it made me appreciate my wonderful husband even more when I remembered all the turkeys out there in the dating world.

I'd definitely read another book by this author. It does appear this is a re-release of a book published in the UK in 2010 by Hodder Ome/Hodder and Stoughton under the same title. I don't know if it has undergone significant editorial change.

Ashleigh Prince is an advertising executive in London who has been dating accountant Michael Parker for three years. She wants to get married and have a family but with her past track record, she doesn't want to rush Michael.


So Ashleigh is stunned when Michael dumps her on Facebook. Her best friend, Becky, comforts Ashleigh, telling her that she deserved better anyway. Ashleigh goes to some pretty extensive lengths to woo back Michael, but it ends up costing her emotionally, financially and socially. She will have to hit rock bottom before she comes to her senses.
GETTING OVER MR. RIGHT is about what not to do when you get dumped. Not only could you wind up in jail, you could lose all of your friends, your family could turn their backs on you and you could be homeless and all alone. Ashleigh has some hard lessons to learn, and shell suffer the consequences of her actions. A humorous, chick-lit book that is easy and fun to read.

I'm a sucker for a cute cover and a catchy title, so this book was a shoe in for me to read. I'm not as disappointed as other reviewers about the book, but I'm not as into it as others are either.

General summary:
Like so much chick lit (which is a genre I tend to favor), this is about a girl who thinks she's got it all only to get dumped and everything to crash around her. In her grieving process she goes a little off the deep end. She ends up with a restraining order, unhappy friends, sleeping with too many men (including the ex), losing her job, etc., etc., etc. Honestly, the list continues. There were so many things packed into this book that it's hard to list. Just think of the bad possibilities and expect them here.

My thoughts:
It sucks getting dumped. We've all had that moment of craziness where we plan some sort of revenge. This may justify driving by his house/work, leaving messages on his phone, or things along those lines. Ashleigh (main character, sorry, forgot to mention that) goes further than most of us. I'd say that giving up everything good in our lives for a guy is probably not something most women do. I felt that Manby was just trying to one up each possible scenario of a break-up. Generally this was outrageous enough to be funny, but I missed the witty dialogue that chick lit is famous for. I was hoping to get something like Hissy Fit, but was let down.
