4.0 out of 5 stars Fun sequel - sci-fi thriller..., December 6, 2010

This review is from: Ghost Country (Mass Market Paperback)

This exciting follow up to The Breach reads like a movie script and I could see the action sequences and the main characters on the big screen as I turned the pages. A worthy sequel, Mr. Lee takes the characters on an incredible adventure following their discovery of a dead city filled with dusty bones.

Travis, Paige and Bethany used the cylinder to time travel to Yuma, Arizona, where they figure out that a controlled catastrophe is about to happen in the current month of December and that it will have the effect of virtually destroying the known world. What that incipient disaster is has them running all over the continents, back and forth in time, and facing their nemesis -- a former humanitarian in cahoots with the sitting President and a host of other corrupt scientists and government officials.

Although some suspension of disbelief at the last minute saves and some of the science and politics is required, it is after all science/adventure FICTION, and should be read just for the pure escapist pleasure of it.

Seems that there is plenty of room for another book in this series and I will look forward to reading it as well.

Recommend -- enjoy!

Bit of a letdown after the first book, but still quite an enjoyable read. The character of Travis becomes much more fleshed out, but the plot line is a little thin. The ending relies on the reader accepting a deus ex machina twist and several unlikely events in sequence. But Lee is a fine writer and this book is still recommended. I will be reading the third novel, Deep Sky, next.

Second in the trilogy and I felt it was even better than the first book "The Breach" which I really thought was good. The final book is called "Big Sky" and I'm looking forward to how this all turns out. Again, a terrific read of action, thriller, and a hint of sci-fi.

First Line: Fifty seconds before the first shots hit the motorcade, Paige Campbell was thinking about the fall of Rome.

A top secret anomaly has been passing strange and indecipherable technology to our world for decades. The latest device it's shared can let a person look into the future.

What Paige Campbell saw when she looked seventy years into the future scared the hell out of her. When she and her colleagues take their discovery to the President, they are attacked after leaving the meeting. Travis Chase must rescue Paige because Paige knows that in four short months the world will be a ghost country scattered with the bones of billions. They must do everything in their power to prevent this-- even if it means being lost on the wrong side of the future.

From the opening attack on the motorcade to the last page, Ghost Country is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride that doesn't let you go. Even though there were times that I felt out of synch with the relationship between the two main characters (not having read the first book in the series), the action more than made up for it.

I'll definitely be looking for more of Travis Chase's adventures.

I enjoyed this book, as I did his first, The Breach. The premise is unusual, although I don't think he fleshes out his characters as much as he could.

I love this author. I have really enjoyed this book and also his first (read The Breach before you read Ghost Country). I'm a fan of science-based thrillers (a la James Rollins), and this author truly did not disappoint. I'm really looking forward to his future books to unravel the mystery of Travis's future actions and his relationship with Paige.

One of the more interesting and unique sci-fi stories I've read recently. I liked the first in the series, The Breach, slightly better.

Loved it. Fast-paced, well-plotted, still as engrossing as the first installment.

This was an exciting adventure! I couldn't put it down. I hope this author continues to write and produce exciting reads like this one

A gripping followup to The Breach, this book takes the story forward solidly. Good dialog, story and character development, Patrick Lee delivers a fun ride. And he certainly does not shy away from thinking big. This book is unlikely to win any literary awards, but it will entertain you. I lost sleep and that is saying quite a bit.

A multiple universe tale with a bad/good guy dropped into a bewildering and fantastic techno war between good and absolute evil, and attempting to change a preordained betrayal.
The author uses a standard plot line to weave a really interesting story.
