This is the second in the seriest and does a nice job of developing the characters just a bit more -- particularly the relationship between Jack and Penelope. Just a tiny bit of spark developing in a very interesting way. Loved it, and the mystery was interesting, too!

What a delightful series. It blends the 40s and the present in an interesting way. The Ghost is much more developed in this second book in the series. It's a fun and easy read. I recommend it.

Not bad, but not great either. Like the first in the series, the mystery itself was pretty good but the interaction between the ghost and Mrs McClure was a bit unrealiztic and hokey. I really liked the ghost's personality though. He was a real, hard-boiled 1940's P.I. One of those tough talking, mean city streets kind of guys that you use to find in all the old mystery novels. It was nice to find out a bit more about him.

I liked this one better than the first one, Penelope is less uptight in this one, and I found the mystery more interesting. I recommend this one over the first one.

Each book in this series is better than the one before! Jack, the ghost of a 1940's private investigator who lives in Buy the Book, the mystery/rare books bookstore owned
teams up with Penelope Thornton-McClure. With the help of her aunt and a host of town "characters", they are on the trail of another killer. A very wealthy debutante writes a "tell-all" about the murder of another very wealthy debutante and all of their closest friends. Jack becomes "mobile" when Penelope finds a buffalo nickel in Jack's old case files. As long as Penelope has the nickel, she can "talk" to Jack. It sounds very strange but believe me, it works.

Liked better than the first one, which I liked well enough to read the 2nd. :) Pen and the hard-boiled ghost P.I. who haunts her bookshop, Jack, solve 4 murders, two from the past, and two in Pen's town. Pen's stands up to her snooty ex-in-laws at last. Jack and Pen's relationship moves to a higher sphere, which is all I can say without spoiling. I definitely want to read more.

In the second book of the Haunted Bookshop series, Penelope has invited a true-crime author for a reading from her current bestseller, a tell-all about the unsolved murder of her friend. The book has angered the spoiled socialite's peers as she reveals secrets and shreds reputations, and hints at her knowing who committed the crime. When her dead body is discovered in the lake, and a local young man goes missing, he is immediately suspected of the crime, especially when his past involvement with drug dealing surfaces. Penelope believes it more likely to be someone from the past, involved in the original murder, and with the help of her friendly ghost detective, starts investigating. It's an entertaining enough story, and I should have guessed the murderer's identity, but it unfolds without much suspense, which is ok for a cozy mystery. What I found extremely irritating, however, were the incidences of sloppy writing/editing - I mean, come on, a published author or at least her editor should know the difference between a possessive and a plural! To have one is bad enough but excusable, but THREE??!!! Someone's being overpaid if they don't know when not to use an apostrophe.

Second book in The Haunted Bookshop series. This one wasn't bad, but I enjoyed the first one more. There's a slight hint of an attraction between Penelope and Jack, but seriously, where can it go? He's dead! As with the first book, I enjoy the banter between Penelope and Jack and his vernacular is quite entertaining. The author does a good job of making Jack believable with his vocabulary. I have the next two books in this series and am looking forward to reading them.

Another great book. I just love this series and look forward to learning a little more about Jack in each book. The characters are interesting & quirky, I love quirky! The "dream trips" into Jack's past are wonderful and having Penelope join him is a great twist and I look forward to seeing where it goes.

This is a great cozy series!
The ghost of a PI and the owner of a bookstore solve mysteries together.
This was the only rule bookshop owner and widow Penelope Thornton-McClure had given her resident ghost, hard-boiled PI Jack Shepard. But when the hot young author Angel Stark arrives at the store to promote her latest, a true crime novel, Jack can hardly contain himself. After all, this is his specialty! Angel's book is an unsolved mystery about a debutante found strangled to death. And it's filled with juicy details that point a finger at a number of people in the deb's high society circle. But when the author winds up dead too, in precisely the same way, Pen is fast on the case...which means Jack is too. After all, a ghost detective never rests in peace.
