This is a beautiful book with beautiful artwork. The pictures are beautiful. Della and Jim are a young married couple who want to give the other something beautiful, but have no money for Christmas. Della has gorgeous long red hair which you will see in the pictures. Jim's only valuable is his grandfathers gold watch. Both separately go window shopping through town hoping to buy the other a fine gift, but alas neither has any money but some change which will buy nothing grand. DElla decides to sell her very long beautiful red hair. From the pictures you can see she is quite an exquisite beauty. She has her beautiful red hair clipped off and sells it.This is a well illustrated book. She buys Jim a golden chain to go with his beautiful gold watch. She goes home and heats up her curling iron on the gas stove and curls her hair left.Beautifully illustrated in the book. Jim Comes home for Christmas eve and is shocked by Della's haircut. You see he sold his gold watch to buy her tortoiseshell combs for her beautiful red hair which will grow back. But being so in love with Della he sold his only valuable possession to but the combs. The moral love is worth so much more than material things. This beautiful story was wriitten by O. Henry and the Book is beautifully illustarted in detail by the very talented Robert Sauber. The Front cover is a gorgeous picture of Della with her beautiful red long hair window shopping. The Detail is awesome.
