Helpful Score: 8
There are 21 recipes (7 Muffins, 1 Scone and 13 Breads) in this cookbook. Each recipe has 2 pages of cut-out Gift Tags (6 per recipe) with the recipe just after the mix recipe, which is convenient, but kind of odd when you are flipping through looking for the Mix Recipes. Also, there is no Table of Contents, Index, or page numbers. 128 pages total. Spiral bound, 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" Paperback. ISBN-10: 1563831228 (Item #3002)
All pages are made of cream colored thick card stock paper, inside is all black and white, no photos. There is 1 page at the beginning on how to decorate the jars and attach the tags. The gift jars are supposed to keep up to 6 months without nuts and 3 months for those with nuts. Looks like fun! (If you don't mind the Bisquick recipes anyway).
Recipes:
Ginger Spice Muffins
Apple Muffins
Date & Nut Muffins
Bran Muffins (or Pineapple Bran Muffins)
Chocolate Chip Muffins
Heart Smart Muffins
Holiday Muffins
Scones
*Cornbread
*Cherry Bread
*Pumpkin Bread
*Peach Bread
Strawberry Bread
*Apricot Bread
Butter Pecan Bread
*Cranberry Bread
*Banana Bread
Heirloom Brown Bread
*Blueberry Bread
*Banana Chocolate Chip Bread
Whole Wheat Beer Bread
*Recipes with BISQUICK BAKING MIX (9 out of 13 of the bread recipes!)
If you don't use Bisquick then you probably won't want this cookbook. I personally prefer to bake from scratch and know exactly what is in there and to make it as healthy as possible!
Five recipes call for BUTTERMILK (Chocolate Chip Muffins, Heart Smart Muffins, Scones, Butter Pecan Bread, and Heirloom Brown Bread).
One recipe calls for INSTANT NON-FAT DRY MILK (Holiday Muffins).
One recipe calls for ALL-BRAN CEREAL (Bran Muffins).
The rest of the mix recipes call for normal ingredients like flour and sugar, etc...
Recipes for the final product call for butter or margarine, eggs, or milk, but many can probably be made vegan, cholesterol-free, dairy-free or egg-free with a vegan trans-fat free margarine such as Earth Balance, egg replacer such as Ener-G and soy or nut milk and vegan or dark chocolate, though I haven't tried any of the recipes.
